This year it is safe to say that the MVFers bakers raised the bar of the annual Great MVF Bake Off to new heights! With some towering masterpieces, incredible decorations and a range of delicious flavours; the Bake Off gave MVFers the chance to enjoy some delicious food while fundraising for Castlehaven.
Each team were challenged with three bakes; a signature traybake, a savoury technical and an all-out showstopper dessert. The competition was tight but luckily Tricia from Castlehaven was on hand as guest judge to help choose the winners, along with MVF CEO Michael Teixeira, President and Co-founder Titus Sharpe, Executive Assistant Becky Harper and Chief Technology Officer Michael Johnson.
There were some stand-out dishes, but our winners included a lemon, blueberry and white chocolate traybake, some wonderful pesto, red pepper and onion tarts and ‘Nuts About Cake’ - a nutella buttercream, roasted hazelnut and ferrero rocher decorated masterpiece.
Following judging was the showstopper auction. With such incredible cakes there was some heavy competition to place the winning bid. Starting off with a some strong £70 and £80 bids for the smaller cakes, others like the the exquisite raspberry and chocolate cake went for a total of £200! But nothing compared to the winning showstopper ‘Nuts About Cake’ - it secured the highest bid in MVF Bake Off history going for £320!
MVF’s CSR committee held a bake sale throughout the rest of the day to ensure everyone managed to get to sample the incredible work done by the MVF bakers. With sales continuing into Friday, so far the event has raised more than £3,500 for Castlehaven.
Lucy Crossfield, Deputy Editor of Expert Market who organised this years event commented: “Another year, another fantastic Bake Off under our (now very tight) belts! This year was bigger and better than ever; the cakes were taller, the bids were higher and the judges had an even more difficult time choosing our worthy winners. Most importantly, we raised a phenomenal amount of money for Castlehaven, smashing through our previous record and setting a new benchmark for next year. Bring on 2019!”
